Samuel L. Dunston, Sr. is justly proud of his over 50 years of prominence in the insurance and employee benefits fields, but not nearly as proud of the opportunities his prominence brings to the people around him. He is, in every sense of the word, a “people person”.
From his early years as a agent in North Carolina to the founding of his National Allotment Insurance Agency, Ltd. In 1977, an early home-based business, whose solidly steady growth to date, places it among a recognized leader in the minority-owned and operated business arena in the New York metropolitan area, Sam Dunston has been the consummate professional.
It is no accident that he is highly regarded in the business and civic communities; no accident that groups such as Local CWA Union – Local 1182, Local 1707, Local 389, Local 300 and numerous church councils are as eager for this counsel as are the Boards of Directors o the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce (for which he is a Board member), Brooklyn Hospital (for which he is on the Board of Directors), to name a few. Sam Dunston works equally as comfortably with the neighborhood client who can afford only $3 a week as he does for an impressive list of companies on his client roster. And what a client roster it is:
National Grid, Amalgamated Union, Social Concern Community Development Corp., Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, CABS Nursing Home and their affiliates, North General Home Attendant Agency, United States Military Academy at west Point – and the list goes on.
Like the name, National Allotment Insurance Agency, Ltd, Sam Dunston’s approach to the business may be a little misleading. For instance, although they come under the banner of insurance, Sam’s team provides full-service professional expertise in almost every phase of financial services. When a company gets a health or welfare benefits plan from National Allotment, it typically contains more than just the underwriting, actuarial, operational analysis and administrative parameters. Usually, there are constant containment alternatives, recordkeeping guidelines and employee communications publications and statements.
It May not seem like much, but those are the little extras that catch the eye of the people who value quality – the people who reach out to associate themselves with that person who exemplifies that quality. And who reached out to Sam? In addition to the organizations named above, Sam also serves on the Boards of the Greater New York Chapter of the 100-year-old National Business League and the Brooklyn Hospital Community Advisory Board.
Sam Dunston is highly respected in business and loved and greatly appreciated for all of his civic generosity and compassion throughout the community-at-large.
